🎠 Giddy Up, Gorgeous: A Venue Scouting at Santa Anita Park

By Cherry Pop Events — Weddings and Events with Sass and Class 🍒

Well, call me Seabiscuit — I’ve trotted around Santa Anita Park more times than a dame in heels at a Macy’s sale. Back in my married days, it was practically a second home (thanks, in-laws). But post-divorce? This gal took a little break from the races… until recently when I strutted back for a bit of venue scouting. And honey, let me tell you — what a comeback!

Let’s break it down faster than a jitterbug on a Saturday night.

🎀 The Lay of the Land

Santa Anita is not your average event space. This baby’s got range! Depending on the time of year (and whether or not the ponies are runnin’), you’ll find everything from intimate hideaways for 25 sweet souls to show-stopping spaces that can host 2,000 guests and their cousins twice removed.

But heads up, kitten — when the horses are racing, the crowd swells, the price tag jumps, and access to certain spots becomes more locked down than your diary in high school.

💐 First Look: Summer Vibes & Lush Surroundings

Now I know what you’re thinking — “What about the grass, darling? Isn’t it all burnt toast in the summer?” I had the same worry. But lo and behold, the grounds were lush and green as a fresh mint julep. For Southern California in the heat? That’s nothing short of miraculous. Go ahead, strike a pose — these lawns are photo ready.

💎 The Chandelier Room: Ballroom Dreams & Vintage Glam

Oh honey, the Chandelier Room? She’s a total dish. Room for 200+ seated with a dance floor, her own bar, kitchen, elevator, and a bridal suite tucked in like a love letter. Add in two cascading staircases just begging for a dramatic entrance, and a secret speakeasy groom’s lounge behind a hidden door — yes, you heard that right, a hidden door — and you’ve got yourself one swanky setup.

Cocktail hour? Out on the balcony, baby. From up there, you get a postcard-worthy view of the track and the San Gabriel Mountains. It’s like Gatsby meets Gone with the Wind, with better lighting.

🍾 Paddock Party Perfection

Now if you’re looking for something a little more open air, darling, let’s talk the paddock. This is the winner’s circle — literally — where history meets hydrangeas. It’s got room for 2,000 (yes, TWO THOUSAND) and still feels cozy with separate spaces, a sprawling bar, and that effortless flow everyone raves about but no one knows how to create.

The style? Soft industrial chic with a century-old soul. You can dress her up, dress her down, or just let her vintage charm steal the spotlight. She doesn’t need much — just like a good red lip.

💃 Cherry’s Pick: Paddock vs. Chandelier

If you ask this old gal (and you are), the paddock is where the party’s at. The Chandelier Room is all glitz and glam — and if you’re into that, you go, sugar. But the paddock? She’s got heart. She’s got space. She’s got Seabiscuit’s statue, for heaven’s sake!

It’s got the ceremony space, the DJ setup, the buffet layout, and a dance floor that makes you wanna kick off your heels and cut a rug. It’s open air, inviting, and just begging for a dreamy setup. Only catch? You can’t book it when the races are on — those dates are tighter than a wasp waist.

🚫 The Downsides (Because Not Everything Sparkles)

Okay, sugar, let’s talk truth tea. There are a couple of cons:

  1. It’s pricey. Like, “maybe we elope in Vegas” pricey — but hey, you get what you pay for.
  2. Multiple events can happen at once. But don’t fret — each party gets their own liaison, and the staff runs like a well-oiled lipstick case. You won’t be sharing your cake table with strangers, promise.

Still with me, toots? Good. Because everything else? Pure magic. The staff? Polished. The scenery? Perfection. And you don’t have to give a hoot about horse racing to fall head over heels for this place.
